Build Date:            2002

Since 2002 several changes have been made including a more powerful and reliable electric drive system and stronger front wheels, however, the vehicle has remained essentially the same. These specifications are for the 2005 vehicle.

Chassis:       Space-frame built to Greenspeed GR 16/19 trike dimensions.

                   Chromium  Molybdenum steel, MIG welded       

Steering:      Greenspeed geometry with crossed drag links and under-seat handlebars.

Canopy:  Local design, ‘clam shell’ style with front hinge and rear latch. Junior version of larger canopy.

              Composite construction, 2 layers of 175 gsm woven glass cloth, polyester resin.

              Polycarbonate windscreens.

Electric Drive System:

              24v, 600 watt brushless motor with integrated controller.  

              Primary chain drive, 0.25”, with free wheel to intermediate shaft.

Batteries:   2 x 12 volt, sealed lead acid, either 16 Ah, ‘Odysey’ or 20 Ah ‘Bonds’.

Petrol Drive System:

              Honda GX-31 31cc 4 stroke brush-cutter engine with kick start mechanism fitted to recoil starter. Centrifugal clutch from Stil brush-cutter.

              Primary drive gearbox modified from an unidentified ancient washing machine.

              BMX free wheel fitted to intermediate shaft.

Transmission:   9 tooth drive sprocket with cush drive on intermediate shaft.

                       7 speed SIS chain gears

Wheels:  20” BMX, 48 spoke, modified hubs to take ball bearings and 12mm axles.

Tyres:     20x1.75 Tioga Comp Pools

Brakes:    Disk front and rear, 160mm rotors, cable operated ‘Winzip’ calipers

Controls:  Brakes, gear, horn, electric and petrol throttles all mounted on handlebars.

Other:       Named after our successful first hybrid 2 vehicle, Prius Junior which in turn was named after the Toyota hybrid vehicle, Prius. Toyota were a substantial sponsor whose assistance enabled us to develop our energy vehicle program in the early days.

Competition Record

           RACV Energy Breakthrough, winner of trial, hybrid 2, 2002 to 2005 (It has never been beaten on the track in its class)

           Overall winner, hybrid 2, 2003 to 2005

           Holder of lap record for original hybrid track at Maryborough.
